ACP Peer Reviewer

The Regional Paramedic Program for Eastern Ontario (RPPEO) is seeking experienced Advanced Care Paramedics (ACPs) to join our clinical quality review team as Peer Reviewers of Ambulance Call Reports (ACRs). This contract role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to patient safety and quality standards in the Eastern Ontario region by conducting peer reviews on ACRs and supporting the clinical oversight mandate set forth by the Ministry of Health.

Position Overview:

ACPs will conduct remote reviews of ACRs to assess patient care quality and identify patient safety concerns within defined standards. Reviewers focus on ACRs that include delegated medical acts. This role is ideal for paramedics with an interest in clinical quality improvement and patient safety.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Five years of practice as a paramedic and at least two years as an ACP.
  • Certification: Currently certified and practicing within the RPPEO region, in good standing.
  • Technical Access: Computer with a stable internet connection.
  • Knowledge: Strong familiarity with ALS PCS, BLS PCS, and other Paramedic Practice Documents.
  • Availability: Able to commit to a minimum of 8 hours per week.
  • Quality Review Knowledge: Basic understanding of quality reviews is an asset.

Role Responsibilities:

  • ACR Chart Review: Conduct initial clinical reviews of ACRs for delegated medical acts, validating that care aligns with Advanced Life Support standards and identifying potential safety concerns.
  • Collaborative Quality Improvement: Work asynchronously to support RPPEO’s clinical quality review process.

Additional Information:

  • Contractor Role: These positions are for independent contractors, not part-time employees.
  • Workspace and Equipment: RPPEO does not provide workspace, equipment, or internet access.
  • Confidentiality Agreement: Required to sign with The Ottawa Hospital.
  • Scheduling and Commitment: Minimum 8 hours per week commitment, averaged over two weeks, with flexibility for vacations.
  • Training and Evaluation: Initial training provided; biannual performance reviews.
