Announcing RPPEO Spring 2026 CME Programming

20 March 2026

The Regional Paramedic Program for Eastern Ontario (RPPEO) is pleased to introduce the Spring 2026 Continuing Medical Education (CME) course.

Beginning on Monday March 30, 2026, paramedics will have access to the Spring 2026 CME online module via MedicLEARN. In‑class CME sessions will begin April 13, 2026.

This CME follows the established CEC hybrid model: combining either self-directed or facilitated online learning, depending on your service, with in person practical application. Spring CME is designed to support safe, effective, and current paramedic practice.

Advanced Care Paramedics (ACPs) certified by the RPPEO and Primary Care Paramedics (PCPs) from participating paramedic services are invited to participate. Your paramedic service will provide scheduling for those participating.

What You’ll Learn

Core Topics for Spring 2026

  • Shock: Recognition and Management

Focused review of early shock recognition and pathophysiology, management of undifferentiated shock, and priorities and stabilization of post ROSC patients.

  • Controlled Substances and Medication Safety

Safe use of ketamine, opioids, and benzodiazepines with emphasis on dosing accuracy, special populations, error prevention, and multimodal analgesia principles informed by regional quality data.

  • Critically Confused: Approach to the Acutely Altered Patient

A structured approach to patients with undifferentiated altered level of consciousness, addressing diagnostic uncertainty, risk identification, and safe management strategies.

These topics reflect current evidence, regional patient safety learning, and areas of paramedic practice that benefit from deliberate review and discussion.

Practical Application
  • Full scenarios with facilitated discussion and reflection
  • Application of clinical guidance to real-world paramedic decision-making

Course Structure and Expectations

As with previous CME cycles, all participating paramedics are expected to:

  • Complete the online module prior to attending the in person session
  • Arrive prepared to participate actively in discussion and skills practice
  • Use CME as an opportunity to reflect honestly on personal practice and learning needs

Your paramedic service will coordinate scheduling for the in-person component. Some services schedule time for completing the online component as a facilitated learning event. Your paramedic service will provide you with more information.

Your Role in Maintaining Clinical Competency

RPPEO provides CME, Medical Advisories, MedicNEWS, Clinical Bulletins, and medical oversight via Online Medical Consultation. Maintaining clinical competency across your scope of practice remains your crucial responsibility, with each paramedic playing an active role in identifying their own areas for refreshment and improvement.

Spring CME is designed to support that responsibility by creating space to learn, practice, and ask questions in a structured, supportive environment.

If you have any questions or concerns about Spring CME or other learning and support, please reach out to Education@RPPEO.ca.

Completion and Certification

Participation in Spring 2026 CME is mandatory for ACPs and contributes to annual Maintenance of Certification requirements. PCP participation is encouraged in accordance with local service participation in the CME program.

All participants must complete the online module before attending the in person session.

We look forward to another thoughtful, practical CME experience that supports patient safety and professional growth in your clinical practice.
