Peer Reviewer

The Regional Paramedic Program for Eastern Ontario (RPPEO) is seeking experienced Advanced Care Paramedics (ACPs) to join our clinical quality review team as Peer Reviewers of Ambulance Call Reports (ACRs). This contract role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to patient safety and quality standards in the Eastern Ontario region by conducting peer reviews on ACRs and supporting the clinical oversight mandate set forth by the Ministry of Health.

125 more participants needed for Ottawa COVID-19 antibody tracking study

Stop the Spread Ottawa (SSO) is a large cohort study on SARS-CoV-2 immune response, led by The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and the University of Ottawa. Participants may donate monthly blood and saliva samples by self-collecting at home, and/or attend TOH Laboratory Services for blood draws. Participants are given access to an antibody portal through which they can track positive/negative SARS-CoV-2 antibody results. 

Since October 2020, the OHRI research lab has analyzed tens of thousands of samples. This volume of data has made many projects possible, such as:

2017 Fall CME Online Education Material

The Regional Paramedic Program for Eastern Ontario is pleased to announce the topic of this Fall CME: Emergency Childbirth Management.

At the request of the Medical Advisory Committee, the Association of Ontario Midwives developed an Ontario paramedic training program in preparation for the new Emergency Childbirth Medical Directive. 

Online modules covering Anatomy and Physiology and other Obstetrical Emergencies have also been added for your review.

90 Day Patient Care Standard Process Changes Effective Feb 1, 2026

The Regional Paramedic Program for Eastern Ontario would like to provide a reminder to all RPPEO-certified paramedics of the annual requirements under ALS PCS Section 5.4 - Certification Standard (see the supplemental document RPPEO oversight and enforcement of the Certification Standards for further details). As part of our mandate, RPPEO is responsible for monitoring and enforcing these standards. We hope this communication assists you in planning for adjustments that RPPEO will implement in the 2026/27 certification year to better align our practices to these Standards regarding the 90-day Patient Care Standard.

AHA determines that teamwork is critical to improved patient outcomes

In the most recent article of Circulation, an American Heart Association (AHA) journal, Bhanji et al discuss how best to educate healthcare professionals on the new 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines Update for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. The article contains a whole section dedicated to teamwork and leadership, skills the AHA consider critical to successful management of a cardiac arrest "...team based skills are different from clinical skills, [therefore] specific team and leadership training may have a role in the effective performance of resuscitation teams and patient outcomes after cardiac arrest."
