Associate Medical Director

The Ottawa Hospital’s Regional Paramedic Program for Eastern Ontario (RPPEO) is seeking a dynamic and collaborative Associate Medical Director to join our team. As part of RPPEO’s leadership, you’ll work alongside the Medical Director and two other Associate Medical Director to drive quality and advancement of out-of-hospital paramedic care across a diverse and expansive region in Eastern Ontario. This role offers a unique chance to influence the future of paramedic practice in the region.

About the Role
The Associate Medical Director will play a key role in clinical leadership, quality assurance, and the development of innovative care pathways to support over 1,600 paramedics across nine regional/municipal services. In addition to advancing paramedic practice through evidence-based methods, the Associate Medical Director will support the Online Medical Consultation service—a collaborative phone consultation platform aiding paramedics in real-time medical decision-making and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with health services beyond The Ottawa Hospital to enhance regional urgent care practices.
  • Lead the development and revision of out-of-hospital care pathways and paramedic care plans.
  • Oversee quality assurance initiatives, incident reviews, and paramedic certification requirements.
  • Assist with development of continuing medical education curriculum for paramedics.
  • Promote original research, participate in clinical education, and support paramedic training.
  • Serve as faculty for the Prehospital and Transport Medicine (PTM) Fellowship and Emergency Medicine residency programs at the University of Ottawa.

Qualifications

  • Medical license eligible in Ontario.
  • Credentialed in emergency medicine (FRCPC, ABEM, CCFP(EM)) and eligible for a staff appointment at The Ottawa Hospital.
  • EMS/PTM fellowship training and experience in QA/QI or research are assets.
