Acetaminophen for Febrile patients

Question#: 580

Question:

I am wondering if we could expand our use of Acetaminophen to include treatment for febrile illnesses?

Answer:

We brought this inquiry to the Medical Director's Team, and they state that it has been discussed briefly at the Provincial Medical Advisory Committee (MAC). Essentially, it was determined that it does not fit into our current Medical Directives, and there does not seem to be enough of a gap requiring the creation of an additional protocol. That said, we appreciate that you have the medication, are familiar with the pharmacology, and can recognize when it is appropriate to consider. As it is a bit of an exception from the ALS PCS, they suggest a patch to the Base Hospital Physician's group for consultation.
