Use of Dopamine Infusion IO (ROSC) with Correct Dose/Pressurized

Question#: 568

Question:

Is it acceptable to give a dopamine infusion IO (for example, ROSC) if done so using the correct dose and pressurized?

Answer:

Yes, it is acceptable to administer dopamine via the IO device when IV access is unavailable. It can be difficult to accurately regulate dopamine flow through the IO due to the density of the medullary cavity, thus the reason IV administration is preferred. However, when IV access is unobtainable, utilizing the IO is acceptable.
