Can we deviate from the indicated route of narcan without patching?

Question:

Can we deviate from the indicated route (but give the dose indicated in the patch) in a patch order, if we give the first dose (in a repeat dose situation) and the desired effect of the medication comes on too quickly (or not fast enough?) -- of course, assuming the route is within our scope and training.

ie; PCP patch for Narcan SQ/IM/IN, receive patch for 0.2mg Intranasally, Q5mins x3 doses, effect of first dose IN comes on too quickly, can we use SQ or IN for the following doses, or do we have to re-patch?

Answer:

In this situation it would be advantageous to discuss these options during your patch to the BHP.
