Neonatal Resuscitation

Submission ID: 159

Question:

With regard to "neonatal resuscitation", if a paramedic responds to a 29 day old infant that is pulseless, does the paramedic have to follow the 30-30-30 second cycles before they get to CPR, or can they start CPR and work through the respiratory "aspects" of the cycle, including BVM on room air first? The paramedic understands the algorithm is based on process for newborns (dry, warm, stimulate), but not sure if the expectation is to follow it to the word as the infant approaches 1 month old.

Answer:

Please refer to the ALS PCS Companion Document version 3.1. Pg. 8 and reference respiratory priorities
