Unconscious patient FBAO, ALS crew shows up on scene and patient has a pulse. What should be the priority? Removing the FB while using the Mcgills if there is no delay in gathering equipment or start compressions to attempt to dislodge the object?
Thank you for the question. If a foreign body obstruction is confirmed, it would be reasonable for one team member to perform chest compressions as per the AHA guidelines while the other member is taking the time to gather up the suction, laryngoscope and McGill forceps. Chest compressions alone could relieve the obstruction. Hope this helps.
