Category: Do Not Resuscitate (DNR)

If a patient has a valid DNR but is not VSA are resuscitative measures to be provided or withheld?

Question:

If the patient has a MOHLTC DNR and is not VSA but requires resuscitative measures (I.e. cardioversion, pacing, antiarrythmics, intubation, artificial ventilation) are these to be provided or withheld? It is clear when they are VSA but ambiguous when they are pre-arrest or in another state.

Answer:

The Medical Director recommends that if you are faced with such a situation he suggested to patch for direction under the circumstances you have outlined.
