Assessment and Treatment of Substance Abuse and Concurrent Disorders
The purpose of this two-day workshop is to provide attendees with a comprehensive introduction to the current biopsychosocial conceptualization of the disease of addiction and treatment. This will include an overview of the neurobiology of addictive disorders as well as comprehensive assessment of addictive disorders. Emphasis will be made on evidence based interventions in the treatment of addictions, both from a psychosocial and pharmacological perspective. Addictive disorders frequently co-occur with other psychiatric conditions and this will be reviewed. Finally, a more in-depth exploration of motivational interviewing, one of the most robust evidence based psychotherapies when dealing with addictive disorders, will be provided for attendees.
